Wind, rain and loads of goals

Posted by admin on December 5, 2011

The Spartans paid a visit to Greenhill on a VERY windy, wet and cold Saturday morning and managed a high scoring draw.

Game one started in windy and cold conditions, but not raining yet. A good start by the Spartans saw them take the lead after a good passing move was finished off neatly - all going well so far... However, Greenhill are unbeaten this season and they came raring back. The boys had no answer to Greenhill's organised counter attacks, letting in a number of goals as the defence failed to clear and Greenhill were first to balls in the penalty area. The Spartans did manage another in the first half to give a glimmer of hope in the second half.

But, how things can change. A few words of encouragement and advice and the boys were ready. The defence tightened up and stopped the Greenhill breaks, the passing cam back (and the Spartans had the wind at their backs). The goals came regularly through the half - eventually sneaking ahead by a single goal at the end.

Game two was much tighter. The Spartans continued their passing and moving (thwarted a number of times by the Greenhill captain at the last gasp) and Greenhill continued their dangerous counter attacking. Greenhill eventually sneaking ahead after a good save from KIan fell to an attacker - but the Spartans don't lie down and give up and before half time had pulled the goal back.

The second half was much the same - Wind, rain and VERY cold and good play from both sides. However, it was Greenhill who scored the only goal of the half - tying the game.

What a great game all round and well done to both sets of boys for playing is such foul conditions.
