U9's Second win in a few weeks against Rotherham Rangers

Posted by admin on November 16, 2013

It seems strange playing on a saturday morning, having said that I think that was our best performance as Spartans so far! as for the pitch, it was a little lumpy but the surroundings were fantastic, what a back drop... Wentworth House!!!

I think the hard work is starting to pay off for team 1 and week on week they are getting stronger.

We have decided to stick with regular captains for each team, we have asked that in return they talk to and organise their team mates, both Kian and Flynn are doing a fantastic job.

Team 1 seems to be a little more organised, Kian is the lynch pin of the team and leads by example, he helps out in defence, breaks up play in midfield and is also a real handfull upfront, his efforts were rewarded with a hat trick as well as making countless chances and setting up his team mates he is a real asset to our team. Jake T has been a bit up and down of late, but today he was back to his old self bagging himself a hat trick! he showed some excellent skill and was rewarded with man of the match for team 1.

Jake Gecci, Ellis and Henry did a brilliant job at the back, all making excellent interceptions and tackles, I was very happy with how they are all starting to understand positioning and marking, this in turn makes the job of the goal keeper a lot easier, Alex is improving game on game and pulled off some great saves and also proved his bravery by getting stuck in at ground level!

Matt Allen again had a brilliant game. sat just in front of the back two he made some excellent tackles and brilliant runs breaking up play along the way, fantastic! Finally sam price was magnificent, the unsung hero of team 1!!!!

He’s always in the mix, he makes some lightning runs, and contributes and makes goals with excellent passes, i’m really happy with the partnership he is forming with kian and billy up front, I fully expect sam to become a prolific goal scorer for us, keep it up! Game 1 ended 6 - 2 to the spartans.

Team 2 took to the pitch for the second match and were asked to match the endeavor of there team mates in the previous game. on paper team 2 are the stronger team but have been a little up and down of late, however today they really got stuck in.

As usual Flynn captained team 2, as previously stated both captains have been told if they are to retain the captains armband  they must be vocal and organise on the field, which both duly did. Flynn was brilliant, breaking through a hand full of times and shooting narrowly wide before finding the back of the net 3 times to bag the 3rd hat trick of the game, excellent!

He also made some excellent runs and was a real contender for man of the match. Luke and Lewis were solid at the back and like team 1 showed they are progressing by holding their shape well and making excellent tackles and interceptions, they really are an important part of the team.

Josh is also coming on leaps and bounds, although thanks to the defence he didn’t have much to do, but when called upon he made some important saves and also is credited with the first clean sheet of the season. William was also solid in his role just in front of the back 2, his shooting and corners are excellent, he makes some important tackles and was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet, also unlucky not to bag himself a goal was Matt Morris, he really puts himself around and can play wherever he is asked to, another real asset to the team. Billy has made the step up to team 2 in his stride, he came close to finding the back of the net a few times today, and made some brilliant runs passes and tackles and was a worthy winner of man of the match for team 2.

A special mention goes to Owen gratten, he’s coming on week by week, he really got stuck in today and was rewarded with his debut goal for the Spartans! well done Ribs!!!!.

All in all an excellent performance, hats off to rotherham rangers and their managers, they are a great little team, they’ve got the right attitude and are not that dissimilar to us last season, but it just goes to show how far we’ve come and what a bit of hard work and effort can achieve.

Well done boys were all proud of you.
