U9's lose away at Chapeltown Juniors despite late pressure

Posted by admin on October 8, 2013

Another glorious Sunday morning another 10.00 kick off saw us face Chapeltown Juniors in the first round of the cup away (although it felt like a home game having spent most of the summer  training there)

We didn't know what to expect really, having played them in the Tournament at Thorncliffe in pre-season as Chapeltown Athletic and beating them in one game, but then losing 2 strong defenders (Thomas Hudson and William Lajarige ) and our two keepers since last playing them the Spartans could have been up against it ...

How wrong we were!!!

We have decided to stick with two balanced teams, made easier now we are down to a squad of 16 and we're not having to accommodate 5 subs, this is really starting to take effect as the boys get used to playing along side their regular team mates. That alongside the 3v3 mini tournaments we have started to play in training is definitely helping the boys "gel".

Team 1 were excellent on Sunday. Solid defending from Jake and Ellis, Harrison as usual ran his socks off pushing into midfield and dropping back to help defend when required. Billy is proving to be a carbon copy of his brother not only in looks but with his trickery on the ball, Sam is showing the sort of form that impressed in training and he is proving to be a real handful, I thought he was excellent, the goals will come! As always Matt covered every blade of grass and was rewarded with 2 well taken goals and Man of the Match. Josh did a brilliant job in goal making some excellent saves and brilliant kicking, Owen came on as sub and did a sterling job, he's starting to settle in now and has great pace and can really strike a ball, I fully expect a screamer from him soon!

Team 2 took to the pitch for the second game and dominated for most of the game, they did everything apart from score!!! Kian was his usual self, a real handful, he came close to scoring on numerous occasions, Flynn showed some real class and never stopped, he was also unlucky not to score, (don't worry Flynn they will come!). Jake ran with the ball and showed some excellent skill and battled like a Trojan. William is doing a brilliant job pushing forward and dropping back to help out in defence, that combined with excellent corners and free kicks is making him a real asset.

Henry like Josh has stepped up to the mark and is doing a brilliant job in goal, making some great saves and some superb kicks, almost a clean sheet!!! Man of the match went to Luke "the Rock" Gecci a man mountain excellent tackles, great composure and almost came near to getting a goal, Brilliant!!! Lewis was also solid (I don't recall anyone getting past him) he had the Chapeltown no. 14 in his pocket!!! Which I was pleased with as it's my cousins son and family pride was at stake!

So all in all another excellent performance both myself and Ash and Martyn know quite a few of the parents of the Chapeltown lads and they all came up and commented on how well both teams had done, most conceded that they were lucky to hang on under such pressure, and that from the assistant manager of Alfreton Town!!!

Praise indeed. Well done lads, Rich.
