U9's fall just short against Maltby Juniors

Posted by admin on October 13, 2013

After a decent showing against Chapeltown Juniors the previous week we were in high spirits for this game, although perhaps a little more difficult opposition in Maltby Juniors.

We started well, in what was particulalry bad weather, wind and rain, horrid conditions!!!

We had some early pressure, but when they scored the first goal our heads dropped and I think this was the main reason we lost. Our confidence wasn’t anywhere near the previous game, maybe the weather was a factor... infact the first 3 goals could have quite easily been avoided, the team didn’t defend like it has done previously and we paid the price, although I have to say Kian ran his socks off he was allover the field and very unfortunate not to score at least a couple of goals.

In the first half I think we had the same amount of chances as them, some very good ones but went in at half time 3-0 down, so after a little team talk and some needed words of encouragement the boys came out in the second half with some passion. I dont know how we didnt score, Billy had a couple of efforts from long range and was unfortunate not to score Jake G, Ellis & Harrison put in a great shift. Owen is getting better game by game and has a great corner in his locker, finally again Kian kept going and going and was a derserved winner Man of the Match.

All in all not a bad second half performance, against what turned out to be there stronger team, lets hope we start like we did in the second half in future..!

Well done Boys!

So onto the second game, trailing  the match by 5-0 we knew we had to try and claw the game back somehow, again I think the weather affected us, but this time for the better!!! The conditions were a complete contrast to the first game, hardly a drop of rain.

We came out of the blocks really quick, the defence was as solid as previous weeks, and we started knocking on the door, Matthew having a couple of chances along with Jake T, a couple of efforts later the ref blew for a free kick, without hesitaton Flynn grabbed the ball and fired it into the top corner, 1-0!!!, we’re on our way.

William put in a great performance, he’s making the midfield position his own tracking back & going forward as and when, this culminating in our second goal. He kept going and from a rebound, lifted the ball over the keeper into the net, 2-0!!! Now we’re talking. We were putting them under great pressure now, myself and Rich thought we may have a chance in pulling this one back, another goal from Flynn made it 3-0, and you could see this lifted the whole team. I thought it was only a matter of time before we scored again but unfortunately it wasnt to be, Maltby scored with a last minute freekick and the game ended 3-1, superb effort from the boys! The defence was solid with Lewis & Luke building a great relationship, meaning Josh & Alex had hardly anything to do!

So to lose 6-3 overall is nothing to be ashamed of, on another day and a bit of luck, the score could have ended in our favour..
