U10 Red win at Thrybergh & Dalton after 4 week break.

Posted by admin on December 3, 2013

An 11am kick off saw the Spartans away from home take on Thrybergh & Dalton. The game started pretty evenly with the Spartans looking really rusty after four weeks without a game.
A few corners for the Spartans and a few shots from either team coming to nothing. A high ball in the air sees Jacob challenging the keeper for it, the resulting bounce sees the ball go into the Thrybergh goal, the luck for once on the Spartans side, 0-1 to the Spartans.
Thrybergh start to apply some pressure on a woeful Spartans defence resulting in three corners in a row, fortunately though Thrybergh are unable to make the pressure count and the score remains 0-1 to the Spartans.

The play continues pretty evenly with the ball bobbling around on the bumpy surface with neither team being able to get the ball down and control it. Rio who was having a good game after starting in defence burst down the middle of the park on a great run that saw him get free and unleash a good shot that rebounded out and into the path of the oncoming Morgan who made sure firing a powerful shot into the back of the net. 0-2 to the Spartans.
Moments later Morgan plays a great ball into the path of Dale who scored with a brilliant shot on goal, 0-3 to the Spartans.
The game continued in the same way as it started with the Spartans looking rather lack lustre at the back but looking good going forward. We were lucky to perhaps not concede  and very probably would have against a stronger team with a lot of the team looking half asleep. The need to wake up and apply some urgency as well as the need to play as a team, defending as a unit as well as attacking as one and passing the ball out wide was what the half time team talk consisted of.
The Spartans got the second half underway with far more urgency, taking the game straight to Thrybergh. A great strike from Josh sees the ball unluckily hit the post, Logan P playing down the right wing is faster than the keeper to react to the rebound and slides in to score the Spartans 4th goal of the game. The Spartans keep the pressure on as the Thrybergh defence try to clear their lines. A cleared ball from the Thrybergh defence sees the ball fall to William who takes a shot from just over the half way line, the shot is high and hard but bounces just wide of the Thrybergh goal and out for a goal kick. Logan P works well getting wide out on the right and running at the Thrybergh defence, crossing in some good balls for the Spartans to attack, as does Logan H, picking out some good passes and chipping in with the odd shot.
More half asleep defending by the Spartans sees Thrybergh get the ball through and score a deserved goal, 1-4.
Immediately up the other end the Spartans earn themselves 3 corners in a row but are not able to capitalise on their advantage. Shortly later the Spartans earn another corner, step up Jacob to swing in a great corner that was turned into the net by a Thrybergh player, 1-5 to the Spartans.
Thrybergh keep having a foray forward and earn theirselves a penalty, all eyes turn towards Jack to save yet another penalty... fortunately Jack has little to do as the Thrybergh player fires the ball wide. Moments later however Jack does have something to do as he pulls off a great save after more wayward defending sees Thrybergh get in a shot.
The game finishes 1-5 to the Spartans with Dale taking the Team Player of the Match trophy for his non stop contribution to the team. This game proved to throw up a few points to work on in training and the need to keep playing games whether they be friendlies or against the black team to keep the boys development going forward.
Well done boys a deserved victory on the day with the Spartans proving to be the stronger team, onwards and forwards ... UTS!!!
