U10 Red win at home to Junior Fox

Posted by admin on October 16, 2013

A miserable, windy and rainy Sunday morning on October the 13th greeted the Junior Fox to the Spartans home ground for their first meeting in the league.
The Spartans started well pressuring the ball as they have been asked to do ... the Spartans started strongly and on top.
They see the best of the play but are just struggling to put the ball into the back of the net, finally Rio's determination sees him break down the right side of the field and behind the Junior Fox defence, where he puts in a good cross to Jacob who has made a run into the middle of the danger area from his central midfield position, Jacob takes the ball in his stride and finishes with a clinical finish to open the scoring, 1-0 to the Spartans.
Moments later and more pressure from the Spartans on the Foxes defence sees Dale shooting narrowly wide.
The weather gets worse and the boys, management and spectators get wetter and colder, Rio however is working tirelessly and effectively down the right side of midfield, attacking well and getting back to put in important tackles (this despite the moans that he is cold).
The Southey Wolves get their first corner of the game, a well struck corner sees the ball go through the pack of players in the box and harmlessly roll out for a goal kick to the Spartans.
Some great work from Matt and Josh in his first game for the Spartans see's them combining effectively in the middle of the park, winning two corners in a row for the Spartans.
Rio works himself free into a shooting position and fires a ball in, the ball finds its way to Morgan who stabs home the ball for his first of the game and the Spartans second, 2-0 to the Spartans.
More great work down the right sees Rio put in a great cross that rebounds out to Morgan who gets his foot behind the ball well and rockets in his second of the game and the Spartans third, 3-0 to the Spartans. Moments later Rio unleashes a powerful shot that flies into the Foxes goal to deservedly give Rio his first of the game and the Spartans their 4th, 4-0 to the Spartans.
The half time whistle blows seeing the boys come in with a convincing lead. The half time team talk is directed at the boys keeping up the pressure, with both Ali and John reminding the boys that they are kicking uphill for the second half so they have now lost the advantage. The boys are reminded that we have won the first half but we now need to go out and win the second half too.
The start of the second half sees Dale shoot on target but the Southey goal keeper is equal to the shot and makes a convincing save. Matt feeds a good ball through to Morgan who makes sure to put the ball in the back of the net for his hatrick, 5-0 to the Spartans.
Three corners for the Spartans in a row  with a loose ball rolling across the goal line sees the boys failing to capitalise on the pressure as the ball is kept out of the Southey net.
Plenty of pressure sees the Spartans well on top but the ball wont go in the net for the Spartans sixth despite several chances for the Spartans that sees them clean through on goal but unable to get the ball in the onion sack.
An unstoppable shot sees the ball clip the underside of the bar and into the net for Junior Fox  to get on the score sheet, 5-1.
The Spartans appear to have taken their foot of the gas with the boys starting to tire from kicking uphill. This sees Junior Fox produce their best spell in the game. Bringing out the best in JB who makes an instinctive save with his feet from what seemed a sure second for Fox. Moments later sees some confusion in the Spartans defense but again JB is able to tidy up and hold onto a loose ball.
Back up the other end some fancy footwork from Logan H sees him nutmeg a defender to open up a shooting position, from where he fires in a shot and is unlucky to see it hit the wrong side of the post and bounce  out harmlessly for a Foxes goal kick.
The final whistle blows seeing the Spartans coming in 5-1 victors. The boys had another good game but they should be making more of the chances they create and perhaps against a stronger team those missed opportunities could have been the undoing of the boys?
Rio deservedly takes the Team Player of the Match trophy for his tireless efforts up and down the right wing as well as his strong display in defence when called upon to give the defenders a rest.
Well done boys and our 8th man (the spectators) for your Stirling efforts in what turned out to be  trying weather conditions.
Back to the training ground to prepare for a third meeting this season against Tusale United in the cup ... UTS!!!!
John would just like to assure everyone, after realising that it may look bad to anyone who notices that he uses his phone at the side lines during matches to take notes about the match for statistical and write up reasons (he's not answering texts or calls)  :-)
