U10 Red win at home to Renishaw Rangers

Posted by admin on March 12, 2014

Sunday the 2nd March 2014 sees Renishaw Rangers take the 10am kick off and get this previously postponed game underway. The Spartans kicking up the slope in the first half.

Logan H is the first to go close to scoring not long into the game with a good effort from distance that has plenty of power but goes wide. Shortly after Renishaw manage to break and catch the Spartans out, getting through for a one on one with JB in the net, JB holds his ground and the following shot is put wide by the Renishaw striker.

Playing down the left wing Josh bursts through the Renishaw defence and puts a great cross into Logan P who gets onto the end of it but puts his shot wide. Some great passing by the Spartans is starting to put them firmly in control of this game.
A pass is played into Josh who holds the ball up on the edge of the box with his back to goal, staving off the attentions of a Renishaw defender Josh lays the ball off into the path of the onrushing Logan H. Logan hits the ball first time and scores a fantastic long range effort to open up the scoring, 1-0.
Another great move started by Logan H play a good pass into Morgan who plays a fantastic cross field ball to Logan P who rifles the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to the Spartans.
Again Logan H is in the thick of things and plays a great pass through to Logan P to put him into a shooting position. Logan P lofts the ball high above the keeper and into the roof of the net, 3-0.
Just before half time Dale works tirelessly to keep a loose ball in play right on Renishaws by-line where others may have given up, he plays a pass back into the path of Rio who tries his luck and from the resulting rebound Morgan is there to cooly slot the ball into the net and make it 4-0. The whistle blows for half time with the Spartans well and truly on top.
The half time team talk consists of Ali and John praising the boys for passing well and winning the first half, they are reminded that the game is still not over and they now need to go out and play the same way in order to win the second half.
The Spartans kick off downhill to get the second half underway. Rio starts the ball rolling with a good effort from far out that isn't far wide.
Renishaw play a ball across the face of the goal that is just begging to be put into the back of the net but thankfully the Renishaw player slams the ball wide.
The Spartans get 3 corners in a row and make the third one count. Logan H plays a high corner over to the back post, lurking to pass the ball into the net and score his hat trick is Logan P, 5-0 to the Spartans.
Moments later Josh tries his luck with a shot that goes narrowly wide. From the resulting goal kick Jacob charges the ball down from his central midfield role and score a great solo goal, 6-0.
Back up the other end William holds his ground well in the middle of the area when faced with a late Renishaw break from four of their players and manages to make a crucial tackle and play the ball away from danger.
Towards the end of the second half comes a dubious moment that sees Renishaw score a consolation goal. Renishaw are awarded a free kick for a bad tackle. They shoot and the ball appears to land on the top of the net and end up behind it, the referee takes a moment and then decides to give the goal, 6-1. The Renishaw management later state that they thought that it didn't go in, but from where myself (John) and Ali were standing it looked like it did. But it doesn't matter as the final whistle is blown and the game finishes 6-1 to the Spartans.
Josh takes the team player of the match trophy for his excellent team play.
