U10 Black score 6 to beat Brampton at home

Posted by admin on September 24, 2013

After two very comfortable wins of 10-0 and 8-0 the Spartans needed a test an it was duly provided by a very spirited Brampton team.

The game was played in very warm sunshine which seemed to subdue not only the Spartans players, but also parents and friends watching who were very quiet for the majority of the game.

The first half kicked off and immediately it was clear that Brampton were better than the two team the Spartans had played previously, with a number of strong, skillful players all over the field. The Spartans usual passing game took a few minutes to click in as the boys came to terms with the Brampton game plan of pressing the ball and trying to break from there.

After the initial stages the game settled into a pattern of the Spartans contolling and trying to get through the tough Brampton defence, and when they did, the goalkeeper did what he had to to keep the ball out.

The first goal came after about ten minutes when some good work led to Alfie scoring from a cross from Rmarye. This lead to the Spartans applying more pressure and pinning Brampton back.

The second came from a corner to the Spartans. The ball broke in the box and shot after shot was blocked by Brampton until Sam got his goal he has been after - he made sure in the most emphatic way, blasting home with great concentration!

Brampton did pose more of an attacking threat, almost scoring themselves after the Spartans lost concentration and all chased into the corner after the same ball, leaving a Brampton player alone in the box. Thankfully the cross was too strong and nothing came of it.

The next goal was an ultimate team goal as Brampton were cut apart by the Spartans passing and movement.

James collected a through ball from Brampton, released Pav down the right wing who then drove forward and switched the ball to Kieren on the left wing. Kieren took a few steps forward and crossed for Blade to smash the ball home for 3-0!

3-0 at half time.

The second half saw the Spartans start as they had finished, applying pressure but being frustrated by the Brampton strength and willingness to get infront of shots.

Goal four was again good work from the boys, passing and moving until Pav released Blade to slot home passed the Brampton keeper. Following this the Spartans could have had a few more, but managed to hit the goalie a couple of time rather than score and Betsy ran half teh length of teh pitch, was clean through and missed his kick :)

Then came a scare for the Spartans as they began to lose concentration and get away from there game plan. Five players were caught up field as Brampton broke 3 on one - Josh doing his best to hold them up, before James came and cleared the danger. Brampton then had another chance and got a shot in that came back off the bar with no defenders in sight.

This seemed to wake the boys up and two quick goals finished the game as Bramptons heads dropped. Blade stole the ball from a Brampton player and slotetd home for 5-0 and then he finished the game with another as the Spartans were left with three players against their goalie as the ball broke, Betsy nearly score but Blade put it away as the Spartans made hard work of it!

Final score 6-0.

If Brampton gain a bit more organisation to go with their individual skills, they will pose a threat in this league. As it is the Spartans have played three games, scored 24 goals and conceded none.

The key now will be to ensure that the boys don't get complacent and that parents don't get too expectant - hard work and encoragement!
