U10 Black enjoy an away day win at Hallamshire Boys

Posted by admin on December 3, 2013

An early start on a pleasant December morning and the Spartans paid a visit to yet another new venue.

Hallamshire Boys are similar to the Spartans, being a new club on the scene, and with a plan to play good football.

The pitch was probably the biggest the boys have ever played on and for the first few minutes this caused a few issues as the boys got accustomed to the size. The did however try to play the right way, passing around the wide open spaces.

From the start it was clear this was going to be another game where the Spartans were going to win, just by how many. The boys probing down the left and right almost at will, with a couple of early efforts from Kieren kept out by the opposition goalie. Soon, though the breakthrough came as Bettsy played Kieren through for a neat finish. 1-0. Not long after, Bettsy won the ball in midfield and pushed forward, skipping around a couple of Hallamshire players before firing home for 2-0.

The boys kept pressing forward with only the odd breakout by Hallamshire causing problems, mainly by the fact the pitch was so large they could work around the defence. Mention must be made of Alex who was starting his first game since joining - good solid defence and when he gets used to the system, will be a great asset to the team. A couple of times the Spartans defence were guity of trying to do too much and allowed a shot and a corner.

Before halftime, Rmarye got on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 with another great finish.

After the break the game was sealed in a 5 minute spell as the Spartans forced an own goal after some good work down the left, before Kieren pounced on a loose ball and scored his first of teh game. Then within a couple of minutes Rmarye was put clear by Kieren to score his second and it was 6-0. All the Spartans were working well together and really enjoying the space - slowing things down from teh usual frenzy and really finding the passes.

Hallamshire did have one shot across goal in the second half - the closest that they came to scoring n the whole game.

Sam and Alfie were running their legs off as usual down the flanks, with Josh, Cam and Alex working well at the back and James had a couple of goalkicks to deal with this week.

Before the end there was still time for Blade and Kieren (with two more) to add to the scoreline in what was another comfortable win.

All in all a good run out and the boys did not try to do too much individually - this is turning into a really good purple patch for boys. Away again next week.
