The long road to a win...

Posted by admin on October 2, 2012

Our longest trip so far this season took us to Staveley Miners Welfare for our first ever meeting between the two clubs with the Spartans coming away with a hard fought win.

This was definitely a game of two halves, with Stavely setting up their teams in two completely different ways - the first team being a defensive minded team and team two being all out attack.

The boys are really starting to understand what Mark and Dan are trying to do now, and it is starting to pay off. The first game meant that the Spartans had to work hard to pass the ball about and find spaces in and around a tighly  packed defence and get past a very good (small) goalkeeper. Eventually, Rmarye broke the deadlock with a shot from the right through a crowd of legs. Further goals from Jack Betts and Logan secured a 0-3 win.

Game two was completely different. Stavely had three players who could easliy (and did at the start) cause havoc. A quick goal from the Stavely forward followed by a screamer down the righ that Kian managed to get both hands to but it still went in, meant a bit of a reshuffle at the back. Pav man marked their main striker meaning he had very few chances. Eventually the boys found their feet and started to play like they can and it paid off with a reply from Blade easing the nerves and a late insurance goal from Kieren finishing off the day.

Final score 2-5

Next weeks away game is much closer at near neighbours - Thorncliffe.
