League Game 2 - Nether Green away

Posted by admin on September 26, 2011

The first away game of the season saw the boys at Nether Green -a  relatively new and inexperienced side at a nice ground on the far side of the city.

Game one was pretty much over at half time, the boys playing the sort of football that will have other teams starting to talk about them - lots of passing, good movement and when needed, solid tackling. The second half was a case of how many will they score. Notable performances from Sam (with a hat-trick) and Cameron with a solid game at the back who got the man of the match and fair play awards.

Game two was a continuation with Nether Green unable to cope with the flowing game of the Spartans. Again the game was over at half time, before the Spartans then scored a hatful more. NOtable performances from Alfie (who eventually scored) and Omar. Kian also had a run 'out' as he swapped with Jack for a section of the second half.

League game one. Greenhill at home.

Posted by admin on September 20, 2011

Greehhill (probably one of the top junior teams in the city for many years) were the visitors and the boys showed they can compete at this level - no problem.

In game one, the Spartans raced out to a big lead in the first half before Greenhill managed to get things together and in a ten minute period pulled the score back an went ahead (showing the qualities that make them a top team). The final part of the second half could easily have gone the way of the Spartans as the Greenhill goalie pulled off a string of saves and then they scored again on the breakaway.

Game two was a much tighter affair, a quick goal for Greenhill, then a couple for the Spartans - again with the visting goalie having much more to do than James (who played both games with Kian on holiday).

Whilst it was disappoint ing not to win, the effort and football shown by the Spartans could not be faulted. They have shown that they they can compete with the best.

Another solid game

Another week and another solid game. It really shows what good work in training can do - passing, movement, crossing etc all coming together on the pitch.

The opposition this week were Birly Spa F.C. - another newish team - but much less experienced, and unfortunately for them it showed at times. The goalkeeper (who played both games) was kept very busy with shots coming from all angles at times.

As well as good attacking skills, the Spartans showed how to defend as well, backed up by solid goalkeeping  - its hard to concentrate in goal when there is not alot to do.

Friendlies over for now, next week, its league competition!

Brilliant First Game Day

Posted by admin on September 5, 2011

After a busy few weeks (on and off the pitch) it was good to get down to football.

Greasebrough Youth were the vistors and provided a good test for this new team. Both teams put into practice the pass and move skill that have been practiced in training which opened up the Greasebrough defence regularly and some good finishing (including a rare headed goal) meant two good wins.

Every player put in mountains of effort, some solid defending when needed and great finishing meant they all went home with a smile on their faces - despite the rain!

Lets see how the next few months pan out.
