U9's finish 1st half of the season at Stocksbridge

Posted by admin on November 22, 2013

What an end to the first half of our first season as Spartans. Although we end on loss - it feels more like a win!!!

We’ve played Stocksbridge a couple of times before this season, a friendly in the summer which we lost 15 something and then in the league...  Another 15 something defeat, We know Stocksbridge with there history as a semi pro club shouldn’t really be in our league! they really are a well organised quality team that haven’t lost a game all season.

But after today’s game I felt we were unlucky not to at least get a draw, both teams were fantastic! I think Stocksbridge have never had a closer game, Taking in to account we played the day before away to Rotherham Rangers we were completely up for this game...Pride was at stake!!!

We turned up with a game plan to at the very least keep the goals conceded down to single figures, which we did! What I didn’t expect was us to be unlucky not to get a win, each and every member of the team were brilliant.

Both myself Ash and Martyn feel that this was our best ever performance as a team. We decided to put team 2 out first, All of us were well impressed with how each player performed and what surprised me most was how each and every player listened and did exactly as we asked, they marked up, got back to defend, pushed forward and really applied lots of pressure, myself Ash and Martyn could see the oppositions management were rattled, I’m positive they won’t have been involved in such a scrap this season, even the Stocksbidge Management were over heard to have said we were the team most up for it, and they were lucky to get away with the final result.

Josh Woodhouse was brilliant, this I feel was his best performance in goal, he made some brilliant stops and is getting better week after week, his kicks were fantastic.

Alex Holland also saved his best performance till last in goal for team 2, again some brilliant stops and kicks, both keepers were fearless!

Defenders for both teams were Luke and Jake Gecci, Lewis Jones, Henry Walker and Ellis Smith, they were all solid and made some excellent interceptions, special mention to Lewis and Henry who really got stuck in and made some excellent stops. Matthew Allen and William Squires sat just in front of the back two, they defended excellently and made some really good tackles, William capped off a great performance with a screamer to add to his tally for the season.

In midfield we had Matt Morris, Billy and Jake Taylor, along with Captain of team 2 Kian Greaves they All got stuck in and made excellent runs and passes, their man marking was excellent which went someway to preventing Stocksbridge from getting any real foothold in the game.

Jake Taylor was on target again and added another 2 goals to his tally of 5 goals in 2 games. Finally Flynn Kelly and Sam Price were outstanding in there role as out and out strikers, Flynn captained team 1 although he didn’t get on the score sheet this time he had a brilliant game, he managed to make some excellent runs and brilliant passes, and was vocal organising his team.

Sam, like Flynn was great he made some lightning runs and made some excellent goals, unfortunately he didn’t get on the score sheet but proved you don’t need to score to have an excellent game!

I can’t put into words how well all the boys performed, they definitely saved there best till last, it’s a shame we have this break now until January, but we will make sure we get plenty of friendlies in and continue to work on our game, it’s finally coming together!!!

No man of the match for this game, you all deserve it!

Well done boys... Me, Ash, Martyn and all your parents are proud of you roll on January!!!
