U10 Red win 4 in a row to finish the season on a high

Posted by admin on March 16, 2014

An 11.15 kick off on Sunday 16th March saw the Spartans Red start their last game of the season at home to Woodhouse Juniors.

Some good pressure from the Spartans sees an early shot on goal for Morgan that is well saved by the Woodhouse keeper.

Woodhouse Juniors reply with a break of their own which sees three of their players get through the Spartans defence from a throw in but they have JB to beat in goal who saves the initial shot then saves a second in succession.

Logan P has an opportunity to score that is cleared away by Woodhouse. Woodhouse then start to apply the pressure and claim the first goal of the game. The Spartans don't play to the referees whistle and think the ball has gone out for a goal kick, a quick thinking Woodhouse player  nips in and passes the ball into the box to an unmarked Woodhouse player who slides the ball comfortably into the back of the net. William and Jack Dempsey are called over to the by-line by John and told to kick it long when they gain possession as it is noticed that the long ball is causing Woodhouse problems.

The Spartans respond with a period of pressure themselves, Rio gets in a good cross which Logan P meets but his shot goes wide of the mark. The Spartans get a corner which is cleared by the Woodhouse Players. A break is on from the clearance but the shot goes out for a goal kick to the Spartans.

An attack by Woodhouse down the right sees Woodhouse with three players open in the box but JB makes a good save from the resulting shot. Logan P makes a good break down the right and puts in  a great cross that Dale isn't able to control and the ball is put out for a Spartans corner. back at the Spartans end Jacob makes a good tackle as Woodhouse break into the box and puts the ball out for a corner.

JB takes a huge goal kick down field the bounce deceiving a few players but Morgan flicks the ball over the last remaining Woodhouse defender and finishes with a good shot to the bottom left of the goal to score an equaliser for the Spartans, 1-1 and all to play for! Another big kick by JB causes more pressure and the Spartans win a corner.

A goal kick for Woodhouse Juniors causes pressure on the Spartans defence but they manage to clear their lines. Rio works tirelessly in the central midfield role winning some good tackles. William makes a great tackle on the edge of the Spartans box to put the ball out for a Woodhouse corner.

A goal kick from JB in the Spartans goal starts off some good passing through midfield with Josh working well but it is broken up well by the Woodhouse defence.

The half time whistle is blown and the boys come in from a hard battled first half finishing 1-1.

The players are encouraged to keep up their hard work rate, be quick to win the second ball and not be scared to put in a strong tackle. They are reminded that it is the last game of the season and to leave nothing on the bench, giving a 110% on the field. To stay relaxed, play some sexy football and most importantly enjoy themselves!!!!

The start of the second half sees an immediate chance for the Spartans as Dale turns on the edge of the box and plays the ball into Rio who passes the ball across the goal to Jacob who just can't manage to get on the end of it.

A miss-kick by Matt in defence see's Jacob come in to clean up but he too miss-kicks the ball and the ball fall through to a Woodhouse player but he puts it high in what is a clear cut opportunity to score. Again Woodhouse apply the pressure and see a shot hit the outside of the Spartans post, some confusion between the Spartans players sees them trying to pass the ball around only to take the ball from on another. JB keeps the Spartans in the game making a great save from another Woodhouse attack that they would have been thinking was a clear cut chance to score.

Woodhouse are applying a tremendous amount of pressure and at this point the manager and coach would be delighted with a point from the game!!

Logan H works well to create an opportunity for Josh but it is not to be as the boys yet again like to keep John and Ali on their toes and their nerves in tatters!!!

JB pulls off another save and plays the ball out to Rio who continues to stay strong in the central midfield role. Rio takes possession of a loose ball on the edge of the Woodhouse area and after turning twice to beat two Woodhouse players finishes to the bottom corner to give the Spartans the lead 2-1.

Not long later Logan H plays a good ball into Josh who fires a wicked shot narrowly over the bar in what would have been the goal of the season had it gone in. A great run by Logan P sees him win a corner kick that comes to nothing, Moments later the final whistle is blown and the boys come in triumphant in a hard fought contest against Woodhouse Juniors that goes some way to settling what was an unlucky draw earlier in the season.

A great way to finish the season with a win, and four wins in a row. UTS!!!!

JB takes the team player of the match award for some great saves and good kicking.
